St Andrews recorded a resounding hat-trick of wins in major competitions.
LAST week saw St Andrews record a resounding hat-trick of wins in major competitions.
Barrie Forse’s rink playing away in the Double Rink against Ilminster, had a close game, but managed to come away with a two shot victory. At home, the win was consolidated by Don Bailey’s rink making sure with a 34 shot win.
In the Denny Cup against local rivals Victoria, St Andrews went on to a comfortable win. The home rinks of Tony Steer and Don Bailey finished with a 29 and 11 shot victory.
The away rink of Bob Noddings had a struggle, but only went down by two shots, while Forse’s rink had a 15 shot lead so that rink was conceded after 18 ends, resulting in a massive 53 shot victory to the Saints.
Against the Isle of Wedmore in the Egham Trophy, a mixed competition, St Andrews dominated all four rinks. At home, Tony Steer and Don Bailey’s rinks recorded wins of 17 and 15 shots respectively.
The away rinks of George Guest and Forse were even more impressive, Guest winning by 17 shots and Forse by 19, giving St Andrews an overall victory by 68 shots.
WOODSPRING Indoor Bowls Club held their annual challenge day at its Milton Road headquarters.
Four teams - Red, White, Blue and Green vied against each other for the prestigious Challenge Cup.
It was played with friendly rivalry and the eventual winners were the Greens captained by Eddie Hopkins. In joint second place were the Reds and Blues, with the Whites bringing up the rear. Many thanks to all who helped make the day a success.
