Burnham United Under-15s closed the gap at the top of the league, beating leaders Portishead 5-1.

BURNHAM United Under-15s knew they were going to have to work hard in this top-of-the-table clash against Portishead.

United were fantastic throughout and came away with a convincing 5-1 victory. Played on the 3G pitch at Clifton College, United were out of the blocks quickly and were one up in the first minute after a cross by Harding found Kidner, who made no mistake.

The second goal came shortly after from a fine strike by Harding from 30 yards out, giving the Portishead goalie no chance. United made it three with a fine pass from Nix finding fellow striker Rosser, who netted.

Portishead had the majority of possession for the rest of the half, but the back four of Hughes, White, Costello and Durrant were superb throughout and when called upon Manlow was as reliable in goal.

The second half was one-way traffic with United creating several chances with good saves by the Portishead goalie from Partridge and White before Rosser scored his second.

Rosser completed his hat-trick from a fine solo effort 15 minutes before the end. Portishead scored a late consolation, but this should not take the gloss off a fine team performance.

United are now two points behind Division 1 leaders Portishead, with two games in hand. Barrington and Sons solicitors joint men of the match were Dan Rosser and Elliott Nix.

WORLE Under-14s were impressive as they put nine goals past Nailsea Athletic.

Callum Abraham was sitting in front of the back four, allowing Lucas to play just behind the two strikers and this worked well as he conducted the team from his position.

Connor and Lucas stole the show with four goals apiece, with Lucas hitting two fantastic strikes from over 20 yards, but this was an impressive team performance.

The defence were hardly troubled, only losing concentration once to concede in the first-half.

After the break, Hugh Parry came on and within two minutes, Callum hit the crossbar with a great header and Parry was on his toes to tap-in. Worle stepped off the gas in the second half, but worked hard to earn the 9-2 victory.

Trowbridge Plumbing and Heating man of the match weas Connor Chamberlain.

MILTON Nomads Under-10s returned to action against a powerful Isle of Wedmore side.

The first match was a tight and tense affair with much of the game played in the midfield mud. After an early flourish by the hosts when Tasker in goal was rarely troubled, Nomads took a grip on the game when neat passing from Santoro and Pearce set up Salmon for a cool finish to leave Nomads one up at the break.

Nomads were more secure in the second half, with man of the match Smith shutting down all attacks, limiting Wedmore to long-range shots.

With the clock ticking down, Staddon released Maskell down the left, who unleashed an unstoppable shot to make the final score 2-0.

The second game was a game of two goal scorers in form. Nomads defied the pitch by controlling the game with classy interplay between Williams and Jones, with Coughlan often joining in the fun.

Haycock, continuing his rich vein of form and supported by the energetic Almond, produced two quick goals to leave the half time score 2-0.

After the break, Nomads’ man of the match Gauci began causing chaos in the Wedmore defence with wave after wave of attacks, finally setting up Haycock who converted for his second hat-trick within a week.

With Hood marshalling the defence, it was going to take something special for Wedmore to score, but in the last minute they were awarded a penalty. Despite spending much of the game without being tested, Barratt saved the spot kick to leave the final score 3-0, with Nomads claiming all six points.
