BURNHAM despatched any thoughts on their defeat against North Petherton with an emphatic win over Bude.

Burnham opened the scoring when Webb punched a hole in the centre and set up Jordan Paul to score. More good work from Paul saw Bonell stopped short of the line, but Piper slipped a pass for Alan House to touch down, converted by Piper.

Just before half-time another Piper-House combination saw Burnham into a 19-0 lead. In injury time, a good run by Spelman set up House for his first-ever hat-trick for the club.

After the break, a Bude clearance was ran back by Hayden Tuttiet, good work by Webb set up Sam Chillingworth for a try. Ten minutes later a quick tap by Tuttiet fed Spelman on the rampage before returning to Tuttiet to score.

A good scrum provided the opportunity for Vunipola to execute a miss move for Piper to put Paul free to touch down. Next the forwards supplied good line-out ball, resulting in a try for Russell Pike.

From the restart, Burnham gained possession for Tuttiet to kick ahead, good pressure by House and Stuart Blake, who then picked up and scored. Burnham were now in full flight and after another quickly taken penalty, Sam Coles bulldozed his way over.

After another Paul spectacular retrieval, he sent Chillingworth off on a thrilling run, jinking his way through to the line, converted by skipper Blake. To round it off, Burnham attacked from deep inside their own half eventually for Pike to capitalise on a kick ahead.

On Saturday, Burnham travel to Okehampton, kick-off 2.30pm. A coach leaves Burnham at 11.30am.

Burnham-on-Sea 2nd XV 10 pts

St Bernadette’s 27 pts

THE Seconds travelled to St Bernadette’s in Bristol with a team made up of almost all forwards.

The home side opened the scoring with a try in the left corner. Burnham responded with some fine forward play, special mention must be made of Phil Hobbs whose contribution was enormous. Scrum-half Peters was in top form and Tom playing at stand-off led the backs well and flankers Glen and Paul worked hard.

Good running by Phil Hobbs, linking well with Glen, Gilly Hicks and Andy Norman resulted in a ruck five metres out. Mike Smith crashed over the line to bring the scores level.

St Bernadettes responded with a try, but just before the break, Burnham equalised again after good work from Mark Coles, Andy Norman and Hicks, saw guest Ian cross the line.

After the break, St Bernadettes began to build up a lead. There was good work from Denis, Ashley, Ed Lewis and skipper Matt Slater. The game ended with a win for the home side 27-10.
