THIS week saw Uphill Badminton Club B, D and E teams in action with the B team losing and the others winning.

The B team were at home to Wyvern A, and with three players missing gave a creditable performance, despite losing a hard fought match 8-1.

Two rubbers went to three games. The first was a hard fought rubber in which Ellie Hart and Glynn Davies of Uphill beat Rachel Amos and Carl Lockwood. The second was the last men’s in which the Uphill pairing of Davies and Robin Curry, playing at this level for the first time, produced some exciting badminton to stretch Lockwood and Ross Maclennan to their limit before losing. Robin’s improvement augurs well for the future.

The D team were at home to top of the Division and unbeaten Nailsea & Yatton B and won a close competitive match by 5-4.

The team of Ellen Davis, Peter Rybaruk, Emily Look, Grant Kelly, Kate Robinson and Andy Potts all played well, with Grant leading from the front by winning all his rubbers with some good badminton.

In the first mixed, the experienced Peter and Ellen were beaten 21-15, 21-18. The second and third mixed both produced some hard fought rallies before Emily and Grant won 15-21, 21-14, 21-14 and Kate and Andy won 24-22, 8-21, 21-17.

In the ladies, Ellen and Emily lost to Muriel Gayler and Dee Nicol. Muriel Gayler and Vicky Cowell then won the next ladies for Nailsea. In the last ladies, Emily and Kate won 22-20, 21-12.

All the men’s rubbers were won comfortably in straight games, two to Uphill and one to Nailsea. The only players to win all their rubbers were Muriel Gayler for Nailsea and Grant, with the performance of the night.

The E team were away to Chew Valley B and won a close match 5-4. This team of juniors consists of Caroline Higgins,
