Uphill Castle cruised to a comfortable victory over near neighbours Winscombe.

Uphill welcomed Winscombe and after winning the toss, Winscombe decided to bat first.

Opening bowlers Luke Bliss and George Cox restricted the opening pair of Winscombe and it was Cox who got the breakthrough, with young Paddy Holyday taking a fine catch behind the stumps.

Bliss bowled his typical miserly spell, while Sam Matthews took the ball from Cox and bowled well against Winscombe’s batsman Jory Cureton.

The introduction of Markus Bail got rewarded immediately after trapping Sheppard lbw within the first over and he ended with figures 3-25. Cox was reintroduced into the attack and after bowling a brilliant slower ball bouncer, was able to clean bowl the batsmen next ball.

Cox continued to dominate the bastman and finished with 2-35. Bowlers from the other end struggled, but both Andy Llewellyn and Jermaine Jones restricted runs off the bat, the latter conceding most of the runs with extras.

Bliss finished strongly with 1-16 off his nine overs, as Uphill restricted Winscombe to 181-9 after an excellent final over from Llewellyn, who took two from two.

Uphill’s innings started positively with both Andre Belcher (23) and Seb Winn (46) dispatching any loose bowling to all parts of the ground.

Belcher’s dismissal brought Bliss (3) to the crease and his innings was short lived and he was replaced by Llewellyn (12). After the wicket of Llewellyn, the in-form Jones (42 not out) came to the crease and combined some big hitting with measured shots rotating the strike.

Winn was out in unfortunate style where one seemed to stop in the pitch and he popped it to mid wicket. This brought Tommy Llewellyn to the crease and fielders misjudged his power. Unfortunately, he was brilliantly caught for only five.

Cox (37 not out) was next in and took no time with proceedings, with back-to-back fours followed with a single.

The Winscombe captain brought himself on and this proved to be a mistake when Cox hit four huge sixes in succession. Uphill got past the winning post when Jones drove the ball over covers head to win the game.
