Uphill Castle 2nd X1 lost against Burnham in a match on a different day they could have won.

Batting first, Uphill made 180-9 with 50s coming from Hodder (57) and Tasker (52) after the pair had added 96 in 23 overs. With Uphill on 142 with eight overs to go, a score in excess of 200 was likely, but the rest of Uphill’s innings crumbled as it subsided to 180-9 apart from a brief flurry from Dibben (13 not out).

With rain forecast, Burnham’s batsmen attacked from the off and Uphill’s bowlers struggled to contain the batsmen. Kennedy had House caught with the score on 10 to an excellent catch by Chapman.

Kathait came to the crease and hit everything until he was well caught for 49 one-handed by Williams, with the score on 79 in the 11th over.

Chapman (3-44) and Bliss (2-31) were the pick of Uphill’s bowlers, but Burnham continued their assault and reached Uphill’s total in the 37th over for the loss of six wickets.

Beachlands Hotel man of the match was shared by Hodder and Tasker.

Uphill Castle Cavaliers suffered another heavy defeat, away to Barton St David, though for the first time this season bowled the opposition out.

Barton’s Hant plundered 49 off 21 balls late on to boost the home score past 250. The bowlers manfully stuck to their guns. Opening pair Andy Leech and Hallam Bickell took two wickets each for 56 and 65 respectively.

Ashley Doyle weighed in with two useful wickets and James Holt finished with 3-50. Good catches were taken by Andy Leech, Bob Hurford and Steve Worrall, who also executed a fine run out.

Chasing 258, Castle were given a steady start by Steve Worrall (21) and Martin Palmer (16). Chris Oultram (26) and Ash Doyle (12) also looked good till getting out as the Uphill innings subsided to 138 all out.

The highlight was a mature knock of 21 from James Holt who batted for 17 overs, before being last out to a fine catch off another well-timed stroke.

Added to his contribution with the ball, Holt earned the Beachlands Hotel man of the match award.
