Uphill Castle Cavaliers collapsed from 93-1 to 103 against Barrington.

UPHILL Castle Cavaliers established an excellent platform for victory, before a batting collapse donated the match to visitors Barrington 2nds.

Put into bat, Castle were progressing serenely on 93-1 when drinks were taken. The only blemish had been the careless run out of Chris Slocombe for 14 with the score on 43.

Kyran Davidson (39) and Jake Llewellyn (26) struck the ball effortlessly all the round the ground with a partnership of 50 runs in only eight overs. What followed was an unbelievable procession of no fewer than eight batsmen missing straight balls, whilst six runs were added in six overs to leave Castle on 99-9. Shortly after that the innings ended at 103 all out.

Visiting skipper Trevor Pitman couldn’t believe his luck in taking six wickets for no runs in 5.2 overs, including his first-ever hat-trick.

Uphill then compounded their folly conceding 33 runs in the first three overs. Hallam Bickell claimed a wicket and the introduction of Chris Slocombe’s leg spin caused some bamboozlement and hope flickered briefly of an unlikely victory, as Slocombe claimed three wickets for only 19 in seven overs.

Castle couldn’t take the chances on offer and Barrington rode their luck to get over the line for the loss of five wickets.
