THE second leg of the Presidents Cup between the Weston Central and the Wrington Vale Leagues took place at the Grove Sports Club, Nailsea.

With a 21-pin lead from the first leg, the Central got off to a steady start in a close set with the Wrington coming out on top by just one pin.

Going into the second set, the Central started off well with some excellent skittling from Paul Stewart (57) only for the Wrington to come back with some fine skittling by N Ridge (55) and J Fear (50) and going on to win the set by eight pins.

Going into the final set with Wrington now only 12 pins down over the two legs, they got off to a great start with a spare by Jeff Wall, only for Geoff Poole for the Central to get one of his own.

With Wrington now 14 pins up on the set, Keith Hann recorded a spare for Wrington, putting the pressure on the Central. Luck finally came Central’s way when Neil Middle had a spare and then on the last hand of the night, Keith Hann put two balls though scoring a two.

That gave the Central only 29 pins to win the cup and they did that with the second but last ball of the night.

Both legs were played in a great sporting atmosphere with the Central winning the cup for the second year running by four pins.

Wrington Vale, 566 (N Ridge 55), Central 549 (P Stewart 57).
