A double substitution made the difference, as Kewstoke Lions defeated Nailsea Town Reserves.

Kewstoke Lions 3

Nailsea Town Res 1

KEWSTOKE started the game well and went 1-0 up early on after a volley from captain Adam Brueford.

That was as good as it got in the first half for Kewstoke and they were soon pulled back after a neat finish by the Town striker.

With the second half starting, Kewstoke made a double change bringing on Daniels and Bray, which immediately made a difference.

After good work in midfield, Bray netted to take the lead. Kewstoke were never really in trouble after that and made it 3-1 through debutant Tom Donnerly, after good work by Ben Popperwell and other debutant Garthy Donnerly.

Windsor Castle man of the match went to Garthy Donnerly.

Winscombe Res 1

Shipham 2

SHIPHAM got their Division 3 title challenge back on track with a good win against Winscombe.

They took the lead early on when a Sam Hughes goal kick went over the head of Lee Stacey and it went straight through to Matty Hollow, who netted. Shipham allowed Winscombe back in to the game and they got an equaliser to make it 1-1 at half-time.

Shipham started the second half as the better team, and were creating a number of chances. So too were Winscombe and with the wind in their favour, it was left to Sam Hughes to pull off a number of great saves.

Shipham re-took the lead after good work from Chris Green, led to Stacey setting up Hollow to give the visitors a 2-1 lead.

The midfield of Angus Lewis, Jon Rowsell and Adam Basher put in a great shift, and the defence of Ireland, Aston, Ben Hollow and Green held firm under pressure.

There were pleasing contributions from the substitutes of Roberts, Nicholas and Burland, as Shipham held on for the three points.

Man of the match went to Sam Hughes.

Worle Rangers 2

Locking Park 4

WORLE Rangers were knocked out of the Knockout Cup by second division Locking Park.

The first 10 minutes was all Rangers, but Locking caught the new back four napping and won a penalty, which Jakeman saved well. Locking started to get into the game, but Prime, Clark, Earey and Sutor defended stoutly.

Worle took the lead when Jakeman sent a long ball forward and Dugmore chested to Tom Williams. His shot was palmed away, but Dugmore reacted and fired home. Locking threw men forward and Jakeman saved well from an angled drive, but the Locking forward reacted well to equalise.

Rangers went up a gear and a fine passing move ended with Bush being felled after rounding the keeper. Owen scored after his saved penalty fell kindly.

After the break, Rangers defended valiantly and Jakeman pulled off numerous good saves, but a slip in the back-line gave Locking the chance they needed to equalise. Trewern and Widdington gave some fresh legs, but Locking scored again.

Rangers rallied with Bush further forward and Widdington looking a threat, but after hitting the post, Locking scored a fourth on the break to make it 4-2.

The returning Earey was the pick of the back line, Jakeman kept Rangers in the game with fine handling and Dugmore’s work-rate and quality in forward areas was excellent, but the Curry Garden man of the match went to Martin Williams.
