Cheddar Tennis Club held their finals day after several weeks of round matches earlier this month.

Following the presentation of the LTA Volunteer of the Year Award to Chairman Sarah Strawbridge, play got under way commencing with the ladies and men’s doubles matches.

Juliet Knight and Liz Collins were successful in a well fought match beating Dae Sassitorn and Lucy Horley.

The men’s doubles pairing of Chris Knight and Arthur Brown were winners against Guy Sparey and youngster Ben held his own amongst more experienced campaigners producing some magnificent shots and displaying his youthful talent.

The mixed doubles was a lengthy affair taken to a third set with Chris Knight and Rosemary Harris the outright winners after a tough tousle with opponents Guy Sparey and Lucy Horley.

Nicolas Granger was crowned men’s singles champion after a fierce competitive match against Club coach Stephen Pearce.

The best was saved to last as the ladies’ finalists took to the court and spectators were enthralled by an epic battle between Juliet Knight and Ellie Collins.

The incredibly close match went to a Championship tiebreak in the third set.

Collins was unable to convert a match point and Knight fought back to win an exciting final, concluding the afternoon’s magnificent display of high-quality tennis.
