Cheddar are “very proud to be hosting” the United Legends v Allstars match on Saturday, said club chairman Matt Postins.

The “high profile” match was due to the “good relationship” with Phil Hucker and around 16 former Manchester United players, including the likes of Wes Brown, Sammy McIlroy, Frank Stapleton and Lee Hendrie, will be playing at Bowdens Park.

Postins says seeing the good line-up on show will be 'really, really enjoyable to watch'.

He also admitted the game is about appealing to help bring in more people to Bowdens Park and show them just what the side is all about.

“It’s getting a few outsiders who ordinarily wouldn’t have been to Cheddar Football Club and probably didn’t know we existed to come and have a look at our facilities as well,” he said.

“The pitch has been worked all over the summer, our groundsman Russell Hill has done a phenomenal job throughout the pandemic and especially the last two weeks to get the pitch to what is a sensational state.

"It’s one of those events we are very proud to be hosting. It’s a real honour, it’s quite high profile. Usually it’s held at clubs two or three divisions higher than us.

“I’m really, really pleased and it’s given us a real lift after all the closedowns we’ve had over Covid.

“It will be our first game of the new season and we are expecting a good crowd. It’s nice and it’s a lovely gesture from Concierge UK to have offered it to us.”

It’s the second event in three years to host players involving Manchester United after An Evening with Keith Gillespie back in 2019.

Tickets are £5, with the bar open and food available all day.

The match will also see Andy Chambers, Russell Young and Kev Attwood all involved.

“The three lads have been no nominated purely because they do so much for us,” Postins added.

“They are always in the club helping out, nothing is too hard for them and it’s a small way of saying thank you for their contribution over the last few years.”
