Weston Athletic Club members took part in the Brent Knoll race, with Chris McMillan finishing second overall.

Despite the tremendous rainfall the week before the race, runners were treated to much drier than usual conditions at this year’s Brent Knoll race.

The six-mile course is largely off-road, starting in Burnham, and winding its way across country to the top of Brent Knoll and back. The going was good, and the lack of mud meant most runners were able to stay upright the whole way round.

Weston Athletic Club fielded 21 runners for the event, which was also the final race in the annual Somerset Series. Chris McMillan ran well to finish first for the club, and second overall in 37.47.

Kieron Summers followed in 39.05 and Matt Dell in 41.58. The club’s female runners were led home by Geraldine Hope in 57.28, followed by Maria Davidson in 58.52 and Jo Coveney in 1.02.41.

Kieron won his category at the race, and prizes were also awarded afterwards for the Somerset Series, which saw Geraldine finish third overall and win her age category.

Thursday evening saw the third race in the five-mile prom series on Weston seafront. Although there was a cold north-easterly wind blowing along the prom, 332 runners still turned-out.

Once again, Chris McMillan was out in front for the club, finishing third overall in 26.56 against tough competition. The club’s race positions mirrored those at Brent Knoll with Kieron Summers and Matt Dell taking the next spots in 27.31 and 28.16.

Jules Pflaum ran a strong race to finish in 32.26, followed by Sian Roberts in 36.20 and Michelle Fryer in 38.03.

In the one-mile junior race, Connie Ballentine and Vaughan Clarke were the first female and male finishers in 6.07 and 5.34. Louie Brunsdon finished in 5.54, Stephanie Brooks in 6.12, Oliver Andrews in 6.13 and Keira Devereux in 6.25.

The next races in the prom run series take place on December 22. The main five-mile race starts on the seafront near the Tropicana at 7.30pm and is preceded by the one-mile junior race at 6.45pm. Runners can enter on the night or online at
