Clarence bowlers produced some tense finishes at the club's finals weekend.

Jacob Angove and Carol Edlin ran out winners in the men's and women's championship finals, by eight and 10 shots, but the Wessex final was a different matter.

It went to the last end, before Pam Turner claimed a two-shot win and the two-wood singles saw Mick Edlin win by two, while the triples finished all square after 18 ends.

Colin Ellis, John Whitehouse and Si Angove won a play-off, while the ladies handicap went down to a last-end shoot-out as Lyn Leigh was crowned champion.

The men's fours was also decided on the last end, with Mike Fry, Jon Loveridge, Derek Weston and skip Tony Mannion holding on for victory.

Jacob Angove and Pat Taylor had a two-shot win in the mixed pairs and the Wessex fours was decided by one shot, with B Hayes, K Dibble, E Stott and Taylor triumphant.

Thanks were given to organisers Gordon and Lyn Leigh and Graham Andrews, as well as the markers, bar tenders and catering staff, plus umpire David Stott and Gerald Barlow, who produced such good greens to play on.

*Clarence Golds beat Ashcombe Templars 69-49, thanks largely to a 20-shot win by Jon Loveridge, Graham Andrews and skip Derek Weston.

And the last match of the over-60 league season ended in a 97-53 win over Mark Moor, with wins on all four rinks for a maximum 12-point haul.

Mike Samways, Loveridge and skip Chris Read led the way with a 19-shot triumph.
