Rascals completed a clean sweep of cup competitions in the Weston & District Skittles League.

THE final game of the Weston & District Skittles League season was held at the Conservative Club between the top two teams in the league.

The Racketeers and Rascals met in the Hospital Cup final and resulted in a win for the Rascals, who took all the honours this year, winning all three cup competitions. They led the way for most of the season in the league, but fell short at the end.

The Racketeers won the first set by four pins helped by 59 from captain Pete Sugg. Top score for the Rascals in this set was Ian Thompson with 52. The second set also went to the Rackies by two pins. Top man in the Rascals team was Paul Stewart with 50 and for the Racketeers it went to Robert Lovell with 49.

The third set was a close affair with the teams sharing the honours. Top man in this set was Graham Wilcox with 51. The last set was nip and tuck until captain Malcolm Day hit a 18 spare in the middle of the set.

This took the advantage away from the Racketeers and on the last hand, Russ Loud hit a 15 spare that left the Racketeers 31 to win, but they fell six pins short.

The Steve James Cup was held at the Ebdon Arms it resulted in a win for Unionist A. The White Hart Humbles from Division 4 were not far behind their opponents from the first division, only losing by 18 pins.

The District team played the Wells League at the Strawberry Special pub. The District side went into the game with a 20 pin advantage from the first match and with a win by five pins (464-459), the District team won the cup back.

THE second semi-final of the George Davis Cup took place at the Conservative Club between the Choppers and Poachers, playing for a place in the final against the Alleycats.

Both teams got off to a steady start by drawing the first set. The Choppers started to pull away in the second set, winning by 19 and won the third by a further seven.

Now 26 pins down, the only hope the Poachers had of securing a victory was to get off to a good start in the fourth, this did not happen and the Choppers went on to pull another 32 and secured their place in the final.
