Clevedon 14 ptsAvonmouth 27 ptsTHIS was a typical local derby and a titanic battle between two well-matched sides.Clevedon had a kick charged down early on which gifted Avonmouth a try, but within minutes Avonmouth had a kick charged down resulting in Harvey Russell scoring a try for Clevedon which was converted by Steve Johnson.Clevedon then lost a vital scrum allowing the visitors to score a try and Clevedon gave away far too many penalties, whereas Avonmouth seemed to get away with a great deal on the floor. Before half time, a break through the middle and weak tackling enabled Avonmouth to score a third try which was converted. The second half saw Avonmouth kick an early penalty, but the Clevedon forwards started to turn the screw in the scrums and dominated this area and it was a great shame they could not turn this into points.Good pressure by Clevedon produced a good try for Tom O'Rourke which Johnson converted and they threw everything at them, but the Avonmouth defence held firm. With the last move of the game Clevedon counter attacked from their own line and a misguided pass gave away a simple converted try. Again a solid performance deserving a better result. On Saturday, Clevedon are away at Sidmouth, coach leaves 11am.
