HORNETS progressed through to the last eight of the Somerset Cup, courtesy of this five try to nil victory at Clevedon.

Hornets were the first side to score when on 10 minutes a clever grubber kick from Matt Cornish into the corner was successfully chased by Reece Watson, who then converted from the touchline.

Then the Hornets forwards drove over following two good line-out catch and drives, Courtney Harris emerging from the pile of forwards to claim the try. The rest of the half was fairly scrappy with neither side managing to get their game going in the worsening conditions.

The next score came from Hornets again when Watson went under the posts following some good backline interplay. A penalty response from Clevedon came with the last kick of the half, making the score 19-3 at half-time.

Within five minutes of the restart, Hornets scored a fourth try, this time from Cornish, who cut through the Clevedon defence, Watson again was successful with the extras.

The rest of the half again suffered from the poor conditions which was now heavy driving rain.

The match ended with the best move of the game when a well worked training park move put Watson in for his hat-trick. His conversion made it 33-3.

The stand out forward for Hornets was second row Rhys Matson. However, Watson was awarded the Winsdor Castle Bar and Restaurant man of the match award.

Next week Hornets travel to Ivybridge for the next round of the National Cup. Ivybridge will be looking for revenge after losing to Hornets in the semi-final last year, Hornets will need to move up several gears if they wish to progress further.
