Lympsham gained maximum points from their first away match of the season at South Petherton.

LYMPSHAM’S first away game of the season saw them make the trip to South Petherton in what was always going to be a rain-affected game.

Skipper Jack Luff won the toss and had no hesitation in asking the opposition to bat. The first breakthrough did not come until the 17th over, when youngster Adam Micklewright (1-14) on his return from injury problems, removed Lukins with the score on 41.

From then on, wickets started to tumble at regular intervals, with Craig Scriven (2-22) striking twice in the same over to peg the hosts to 43-3. Jack Luff (2-33) picked up a couple of wickets due to two superb catches from Tom Gooding and Jamie Howson.

Sam Poole (2-39) and Tom Gooding (2-18) also picked up two each at the end to restrict the home side to 140 all out.

In reply, due to coming off several times in the field, and a delay at the start, Lympsham only has 38 overs to chase down the target.

Openers Dave Luff and Jamie Howson started where they left off last week, putting on 96 after 15 overs before man of the match Howson was bowled for 65.

Gooding was stumped for one after facing just four balls, but this allowed the father and son combination of Dave and Jack Luff to see the side home in just 22 overs. Luff senior finished unbeaten on 48 not out, with Luff junior finishing 18 not out.

This saw Lympsham pick up their first full points of the season and see them flying high at the top of Division 4.
