UPHILL Badminton Club’s B and men’s teams have been in action this week, with the B team losing and the men’s team winning.

The B team were at home to second in Division 1, Clevedon Feathers A, and lost a hard fought match 7-2, with three rubbers going to three games.

The third was the second men’s in which the Uphill pairing of Wai Cheung and Robin Curry playing together at this level for the first time, produced some exciting badminton before losing to Roger Lanning and Ollie Powers.

The other rubber to be won by Uphill was the third ladies in which Hadley and Denise Burton won a tough rubber against Lewis and Vicky Gigg.

The only players to win all their games were Roger Lanning, James Light and Ollie Powers from Clevedon Feathers.

The men’s team, with captain Bill Ponting and Grant Kelly, Sourish Ganapathi and Callum Grayson, three of the club’s young players, were at home to Nailsea & Backwell and won by five rubbers to one.

The match began badly for Uphill when Bill and Grant lost a close contest to Peter Argles and Tom Ashford. From then on it was all Uphill as they demolished their opposition, winning the rest of the rubbers in straight games.

The only players to win all their rubbers were Sourish and Callum of Uphill.
