Congresbury were thoroughly beaten by Bristol West Indies & Phoenix by 242-runs and slip down to third place in the league.

Congresbury were knocked off the top of the Bristol & District Senior League with a humiliating 242-run defeat at the hands of promotion rivals Bristol West Indies & Phoenix.

The crushing defeat at the Rose Green Centre sees Congresbury slide to third place with BWI & Phoenix going top.

The visitors won the toss and put the home side in and when they were 41-3, thanks to young Jack Harding picking up all three wickets, it seemed to be the right decision.

But Jack Baber, coming in at four, had different ideas and his whirlwind 132 from just 117 balls set BWI & Phoenix on course for a challenging 299-7.

Congresbury’s reply never got going as they were reduced to 11-5, thanks to accurate and disciplined bowling and some injudicious stroke selection.

They were eventually dismissed for 57 in 17 overs with only three batsmen reaching double figures.

On Saturday, Congresbury entertain fourth-placed Pak Bristolians in what is a must-win game if a return to the West of England Premier League is to remain a reality.
