Mike Fisher’s unbeaten 76 helped Congresbury second XI to victory over University of Bristol Staff (UOBS) in a rain affected game on Saturday.

With the hosts winning the toss and electing to bowl, they took full advantage of the favourable conditions as William Eyres claimed an early wicket, bowling Ben Thomas for none.

Following the early breakthrough Congresbury never looked back and a strong all round bowling display helped them restrict the visitors for just 157-9 in their 40 overs.

Stephen Baker bowled superbly to finish with two wickets for just 12 runs from his eight overs, while Eyres picked up three victims and Toby Lawrence, Ben Cherson and Dan Elmont all claimed one each.

Following the interval Congresbury got off to a tricky start as Doug Storey was removed without scoring.

However, Lawrence and Fisher were not deterred and built a solid partnership.

When Lawrence was dismissed for 24, Fisher really kicked on and struck 11 fours and two sixes in his innings.

With the score on 122-2 from just 23.1 overs the rain began to fall and Congresbury claimed the victory with the revised target set at just 91.

Elsewhere the first XI were abandoned during the interval at Brislington.

Joe Thompson was the highlight for the visitors as he scored 86 in a total of 167.

Unfortunately rain prevented the second innings from starting.
