Weston made it three wins from three after an excellent victory away at Taunton Deane.

Weston First XI achieved a stunning victory away at Taunton Deane, leaving them unbeaten so far this season with three wins out of three.

Winning the toss for the third week in a row, Weston elected to bowl first. This looked to be the wrong decision as the openers put on a stand of 47 for the first wicket, despite some accurate fast bowling from Willoughby and Somerset’s Paul Adriaan van Meekeren.

It was yet another inspired bowling change by captain Rob Turner that broke the partnership, with Chambers striking in his second over and Ash Allen removing the next batsman in his first over.

It was Allen yet again who changed the game, taking wickets at regular intervals during his spell to take his first five wicket haul for the First XI with figures of 10-1-34-5. van Meekeren (9-0-40-3) helped to clean up the tail, with Shabil Ahmed taking the last wicket in the 41st over to leave Deane 163 all out.

Set an achievable target, Weston got off to a positive start, with Ahmed and Jack Press hitting impressive boundaries in their first overs. Both lost their wickets in the first 10 overs to bring Ben Gully and Chris Davidson to the crease.

Gully batted well, but was out for 15. Jamie Howson, playing his first match of the season hit a quickfire 15, but it was Davidson who was the star of the innings as wickets tumbled around him, before John Davidson shared a partnership of 45 batting patiently for the second week in a row.

Chris Davidson was finally dismissed after batting for almost two hours for his 77 from 90 balls requiring only four runs for victory. Ash Allen followed his superb bowling performance by hitting the winning runs with 10 overs remaining giving Weston a two-wicket victory and 18 points.

While Chris Davidson’s batting performance cannot be praised enough, it is Ashley Allen who is awarded Forte Financial man of the match for the third week in a row.

Currently this season, Allen has taken 12 wickets for 60 runs and has also just achieved a 400-wicket milestone for the club.
