League champions Banwell & Churchill were defeated in the last match of the season.
BANWELL and Churchill entertained Butleigh in the last league game of season.
Banwell won the toss and elected to bat, and with the league title already wrapped up, captain Brett Diver decided to switch the batting order around.
Dom Bush was out in the first over for just two, soon followed by Bebber and Brett Diver. Banwell were in trouble when the normal big hitters of Brad Diver and Kyran Gale were also dismissed.
Biggs and Masters, the usual openers, came together and started to rebuild the innings, but Masters was caught out for 22, and with Biggs pulling up with a hamstring tear, he then required a runner.
Adams (10) and Langley (7) helped to push Banwell up to the 150 mark, and with Biggs being bowled out in the 42nd over for 42, Banwell were bowled out for the first time this season for 159.
Bush and Brooks both started well and were keeping the runs down and when Bush (10-2-36-1) picked up a early wicket and with Brooks (12-3-30-1) doing the same, Banwell were well in the game.
Diver (6-0-31-1) brought on himself with Langley (7-3-17-2) and with three more wickets going down, Banwell thought they were going to run through the rest of the Butleigh line-up.
But opener Trevis and Tucker stuck around, but when Tucker went for 38, well bowled by Gale (5-0-19-1), Butleigh needed 20 runs from the last five overs, which Trevis finished the game off in the 43rd over.
Even with this loss, Banwell and Churchill enjoyed their most successful league campaign and with a good mix of youth and experience, are looking forward to next season in Division 5.
Special mention to Denise, who has been brilliant doing the teas this season, and to the Crown Inn for looking after the players after the games this season.
