Uphill gave a poor batting display, losing by 54 runs at home to Staplegrove.
UPHILL lost to Staplegrove by 54 runs having been let down by their batting.
Winning the toss and batting first, Staplegove put on 48 for the first wicket in nine overs with George Cox and Simon Webster bowling without much luck. Cox had Pantling well caught by Tom Oultram at square leg.
Marcus Bail dismissed Sizer lbw and had Rowe brilliantly caught with a one-handed diving catch by Ward at mid-on which reduced Staplegrove to 52-3.
Uphill’s spinning trio of Bail, Keiran Ward and Chris Slocombe put the brakes on and reduced Staplegrove to 113-5 in 35 overs. Mazurabani then brought the innings to life with an aggressive 49 off 34 balls which took the visitors to 207-9. Bail bowled an excellent controlled spell of 2-23 off 10 overs.
Uphill lost Bail in the first over. Andre Belcher and Alex Winn recovered the innings to 38 before Belcher played on. A collapse occurred with Uphill being reduced to 65-6.
Fortunately a revival by the lower order gave some respectability to proceedings, with the last four wickets producing 92 runs before Bickell was the last man out for 27.
Eight of Uphill batsmen made double figures with no one going on the make a substantial score which would have taken them near to the winning total.
Beachlands Hotel man of the match was Marcus Bail for an excellent bowling display.

A young Cavaliers side travelled to Barrington and found the home side in good form.
Captain of the day Martin Palmer lost the toss and Barrington got off to a flying start thanks to opener Green, who scored a rapid 57 before being well caught by Callum Ham.
Andy Leech claimed another wicket, but this brought Towell to the wicket and along with Hastings took a shine to the Uphill bowlers.
Hallam Bickell took two wickets and Leech picked up two more, but the damage was done and Barrington ended on 385-6.
In reply, Uphill did well with most batsmen getting starts, but could not find a big score. Connor Davidson top scored with 41, backed up by Jamie Stephens (22), Palmer (22) and Chris Oultram (18) as Uphill finished on 182 all out.
