Belvedere's outside chance of promotion ended with defeat at the hands of league leaders Wellington.

Belvedere’s hopes of successive promotions were ended by a 28-run defeat at leaders Wellington.

The home side were asked to bat on a green wicket and made a good start before Sam Mccrea accounted for Brooks for 31 with the score on 46. Good spells from Mccrea, CJ Neate, Kevin Crockett and James Robinson and an enthusiastic fielding effort enabled Belvedere to take wickets at regular intervals.

Wellington were dismissed for 175 in the 38th over with wickets falling to Mccrea (9-4-33-3), Robinson (9-1-33-3), Crockett (9-1-36-3) and Neate (8.5-1-39-1).

Belvedere made the best possible start as Mike Hosey and Mccrea raced to 63 before Henwood bowled Hosey for 28. Unfortunately, three more quick wickets followed as Mccrea (33), Pete Hooper and Sam Neate fell in the space of just four overs to leave Belvedere 75-4.

Crockett and CJ Neate (23) rallied with a stand of 53 to bring Belvedere back into the game, but at 128-4 the dismissal of Crockett for 34 saw the innings quickly subside to 147 all out.

All Stars man of the match was shared between Mccrea and Crockett.
