Uphill Castle were beaten by 44 runs at home to Street.

UPHILL Castle lost a high-scoring match against Street by 44 runs.

Uphill won the toss and with the threat of rain asked Street to bat first. The visitors got off to an excellent start, putting on 70 for the first wicket before Evely was lbw to Cattermole for 28.

Having survived a lbw scare and a dropped catch, the Street innings was dominated by Hill, who batted superbly for his 146, before he was dismissed by Chapman. His innings contained 18 fours and two sixes and received support from Trotman, Linter and Bartlett.

The Uphill bowlers stuck to their task and bowled Street out in the 49th over for 269. Bliss bowled a good spell taking 1-29 and leading wicket taker was Chapman with 3-50.

With rain threatening, Uphill got off to a shaky start when they lost Belcher with the score on four. Seb Winn and Ty Watson took the game to Street with an excellent partnership of 144, putting Uphill firmly in the driving seat.

A flurry of wickets halted Uphill’s run chase as they went from 148-1 to 176-6. With the rate going up, the game was gone. Cox, Williams and Disney saw Uphill to 225 and maximum batting points, with Uphill taking 10 points from a lost game.

Autosmart man of the match was Seb Winn.

THE seconds travelled to Wellington and despite an improved performance, came away with a narrow two wicket defeat.

Castle were asked to bat first and got off to the perfect start with Mark Hodder (36) and Andy Llewellyn (34) putting on 81 for the first wicket, but once both of them were out, the team collapsed and only Andy Leech (14) and Ian Tasker (10) getting into double figures and they were eventually all out for 145.

The Wellington innings got off to a poor start and were 8-3 after early wickets for Pete Jobling (2-22) and Leech (1-23), but Wellington recovered to 90-3 before the introduction of Sam Mathews (3-23) and Matt Kearsey (2-35) reduced the hosts 126-8, but Uphill could not get the last two wickets and slipped to defeat.

Autosmart man of match was Sam Matthews.
