A convincing away victory at Keynsham has given Weston a glimmer of hope of escaping relegation.
Weston 1st XI showed what they are capable of in a convincing and crucial win away to Keynsham.
Having lost the toss and been put into bat, things looked to be following their usual, depressing course of events when Andy Fear fell for just three.
When Tom Ford was out for a streaky 25, leaving Weston 35-2, things were not encouraging. Partnerships of 37 between Sean Stringer (19) and Shabel Ahmed (34) and 20 between Ahmed and Chris Davidson steadied the ship, but it was a superb 50 off just 38 balls by Jon Lambert that changed the game, with Weston racing from 95-5 off 35 overs to 181 all out in the 49th over.
Weston got off to a storming start with Stringer (10-2-34-3) removing both openers in the first eight overs to leave Keynsham on 16-2.
Wickets continued to fall regularly with Fear taking 3-22 runs and Ashley Allen and Tom Chambers taking two each.
Excellent slip catching from Ahmed and two catches and a stumping for stand-in keeper Will Whittel were backed up by some great fielding and a superb catch at cover from Ford.
Keynsham were all out for 107 in the 35th over, giving Weston a much needed two bonus bowling points as they ran in winners by 74 runs.
This performance, and more importantly result, gives Weston a glimmer of hope for avoiding relegation, but they must keep up the momentum this game has given to them ahead of the trip to Ilminster on Saturday.
The Forte Financial man of the match was Jon Lambert.
