LYMPSHAM 1st XI, having lost their place at the top of the league the previous week, hosted Gordano Valley, who sat one place below them in third. Skipper Jason Parsons won the toss and invited the visitors to bat and they got off to an encouraging start, but starting in the ninth over, opening bowlers Brendon Summers and Simon Pilgrim took three wickets in as many overs and the brakes were on. The visitors dug in and scored steadily, despite some tight bowling by first change Simon Bailey and Andy Russ, and another impressive performance behind the stumps by Steve Drew, and eventually posted a respectable 194-9 in their allotted overs. In reply, the hosts got off to a good start, with openers Rich Ford and Dave Luff batting well, but on Ford's departure wickets began to fall and nervousness seemed to set in, despite this the experienced Luff held the innings together, and despite a few frights, the home side reached their victory target with an over to spare. This important win keeps Lympsham in he promotion shake up, and great credit must be given to SB Fencing man of the match Luff, who orchestrated the home side's reply and carried his bat for a creditable 76 not out.
