Banwell & Churchill comprehensively defeat Weston thirds by nine wickets.

BANWELL & Churchill enjoyed another comprehensive win, this time at home to Weston thirds in their latest Division 5 match.

In glorious conditions, Brett Diver lost the toss and Weston decided to bat first. They started slowly against the opening pair of Dom Bush and Andy Brooks.

Bush struck in his third over, removing Bissex with a beauty of an away swinger and was brilliantly caught behind the stumps by Matt Bebber.

This became the norm as Bush ripped through the Weston line-up, with three more catches from Bebber and a sharp catch from Brooks gave Bush (5-18) his second five-wicket haul in as many weeks & Weston were in all sorts of trouble on 27-5.

K Gayle replaced Brooks (0-9) for his first bowl of the season. Dancey (20) was proving a tough player to remove until Brooks pulled off an amazing catch to give Gayle (1-32) his first wicket of the season.

Weston continued to struggle throughout the lower order with A Fowkes (2-10) and M Biggs (1-4) polishing off the tail and Weston were all out for just 75 runs.

Banwell batted before tea was taken and Brad Carter was in a hurry as he and Jermaine Jones took Weston to the cleaners with some power hitting.

After just four overs, the hosts were 42-0 when Jones was well caught in the deep for 22. Carter raced to 41 not out which included seven boundaries.

Mike Adams joined Carter at the crease for a rare outing, but the veteran steadied the team home with seven runs as Banwell finished on 76-1 and ran out easy nine-wicket winners.

Banwell are now well clear at the top of the table and promotion is not too far away. On Saturday, they travel to Cheddar for a 2pm start.
