Weston crashed to defeat in a top of the table clash against Lansdown, going down by 96 runs.

Weston First XI suffered their first defeat in almost a year away at Lansdown in a top of the table clash.

Weston won the toss and elected to bowl first. Lansdown got off to a slow start with Pete Trego and Tom Chambers bowling economically. The first wicket fell for 30 in the 11th over, courtesy of an amazing run out from Trego, who hit the stumps from square leg with a diving throw.

A second wicket soon followed off the first ball of Ash Allen’s first over and with Chris Davidson bowling economically from the other end, Weston looked to be in a good position.

A stand of 60 followed between Josh Smith and R Thorpe, before Tahmid Ahmed had Thorpe caught behind for 26. Ahmed (9-0-45-2) soon took a second, but it was Allen who finally removed Smith for 66 in the 38th over.

Wickets fell regularly to Allen (8-1-25-4) and Chambers (8.5-0-29-2) and, despite a stand of 31 for the eighth wicket, Lansdown were all out for 187 in the 47th over.

The Weston innings did not get off to a great start with Fear falling for two in the third over. Wickets fell at regular intervals with some outstanding fielding moments from Lansdown, including a sharp caught and bowled from captain Price to remove Trego for seven and two runs outs to see off Davidson and no 11 Tom Court.

Weston were all out for 91, defeated by 96 runs and taking only five points from the match.

Weston will hope for a return to winning ways at home to Bishopston on Saturday.

The Forte Financial man of the match was Ash Allen for the fourth time in five league matches.
