Uphill Castle 2nd XI bowler George Chapman took 6-16 to help bowl out Westlands.
UPHILL Castle seconds travelled to Westlands and produced their best performance of the season, coming away with a six-wicket victory.
The hosts won the toss and decided to bat first on a hot day and made a steady start to reach 65-1 after 10 overs. The Uphill bowlers began to get on top and Pete Jobling (3-43) and Sam Matthews (1-30) started to swing the game to Uphill’s advantage.
The introduction of George Chapman gave Westlands all sorts of problems and he finished with figures of 6-16 and they were all out for 139.
The Uphill innings started slowly and were 20-2 before Andy Llewellyn (49 not out) and Tom Oultram (36) took the team to within striking distance. Matt Kearsey (22) and Kieran Ward (3 not out) saw the team home for a stunning victory.
Autosmart man of match was George Chapman.
THE 3rd XI played host to Crewkerne and became the first side to defeat the league leaders this season.
Despite captain Paul Kuht losing the toss and Crewkerne electing to bat first, Uphill’s opening bowlers Holt (10-3-24-3) and Chapman (6-0-20-1) bowled with great control and accuracy to reduce the visitors to 12-3.
A brief riposte of 45 for the fourth wicket was ended by Surendran (12-6-18-3) and from there the wickets continued to tumble with Kyran Davidson (9-1-28-2) finishing off a high-quality bowling display.
With a below-par 94 to chase, Uphill began solidly with Kuht (22) and Newman (31) posting an opening stand of 56. A flurry of wickets ensured a nervy end to the game, but Surendran (15 not out) and Davidson (5 not out) took Uphill over the line to win by four wickets.
