LYMPSHAM made the short trip to Backwell Flax Bourton to face Woodpeckers, where captain Jack Luff won the toss and elected to bat first.
Lympsham got off to a disastrous start, losing openers Andy Hall in the third over, and Jason Parsons in the 11th over with the score on just nine.
This brought Jack Luff to the crease to join Tom Gooding who together dug their heels in deep and began to slowly rebuild. When Gooding was removed for 12, the experienced Rich Ford joined his captain at the crease and started to up the scoring rate with some clever running and shot selection.
The pair put on 85 before Luff was removed for a well-deserved 58, leaving Dave Luff to join Ford at the end of the innings, and together started rolling back the years and dispatching the ball to all parts of the ground, leaving Lympsham 160-4 off their 45 overs with Ford ending on a superb 47 not out and Luff 28 not out.
After tea, Lympsham returned to the field and some sloppy opening bowling allowed the home side to 47 off the first eight overs.
Brendon Summers then struck in the 15th over removing Pillinger for 30 and the introduction of Adam Micklewright and Lympsham Concrete man of the match Andy Russ started to apply some big pressure.
Micklewright picked up two quick wickets and Russ finished with excellent figures of 3-24 off his 12 overs with some exceptional fielding from Gooding who took three catches and this left Woodpeckers 114-6 with 16 overs to go.
Some solid batting prevented Lympsham from securing victory as the home side achieved their target in the 42nd over with Lympsham’s effort not quite enough.
