LYMPSHAM 1st XI, having secured the league championship the weekend before, were looking to end their season in style with a good win against Bristol side Woodpeckers. Skipper Jason Parsons won the toss and invited the visitors to bat, and their top order was decimated by an explosive piece of opening bowling by SB Fencing man of the match Brendon Summers, who dismissed the first five batsmen. With Dave Luff taking two catches of the highest order and the change bowlers cleaning up the tail, a target of only 138 was posted, which should have proved no problem for the champions, but they got off to an uncomfortable start, losing both their openers cheaply. This however brought together the skipper with the experienced Derek Evans, and by the time Evans was dismissed victory had been all but achieved, and Parsons finished on an impressive 71 not out, which included five big sixes. This victory was a good end to a great season and Lympsham now look forward to the challenges that lay before them next season at a higher level.
