Lympsham finished 51 run short in their league match at Blagdon.

LYMPSHAM made the relatively short trip to Blagdon and captain Andy Hall won the toss and asked the opposition to bat on a hot afternoon.

Blagdon’s opener, Board, set about the Lympsham attack and gave numerous chances, none of which were taken by the Lympsham fielders.

Blagdon amassed 255-5 with Board scoring 136 as Lympsham toiled in the heat. Liam Morris was the pick of the Lympsham bowling finishing with 2-25.

After tea, Lympsham struggled to get any momentum in their batting and it was only Jason Parsons (41) and 61 extras that took Lympsham to a reasonable total of 204 all out.

Second XI captain Rod Simpson lost the toss and the Bristol Sri Lankans decided to bat first. In favourable batting conditions, the guests took full advantage scoring 343, including 145 by Teevan.

The experienced Simon Cowgill stemmed the flow of runs with some steady bowling and Max Ford and James Hall both took three wickets each in a late fightback, which led to Lympsham achieving maximum bowling points. The highlight of the fielding display was an excellent run out by James Hall.

In reply, Lympsham scored a credible 270-6, but unfortunately were unable to achieve the required run rate and lost the game by 73 runs. George Munden, the Window Merchants man of the match, scored a stylish 87, his maiden fifty for the club and Simon Pilgrim and the veteran Paul Shannon shared an unbroken stand of 81.
