LYMPSHAM 1st XI travelled to Bristol to play Old Cathedralians, knowing a maximum points win against the bottom side would help towards securing promotion. Skipper Jason Parsons won the toss and invited the hosts to bat, and opening bowlers SB Fencing man of the match Brendon Summers and Simon Pilgrim were soon among the wickets, removing the first eight batsmen for just 72 runs in only 24 overs. With first change bowler Andy Russ polishing off the tail in less than three overs, the home side were dismissed for a dismal 86. This excellent bowling performance had been aided by some competent fielding and another excellent display behind the stumps by Steve Drew. In reply, the visitors started steadily with openers Andy Hall and Rich Ford giving their side a good platform, and although these two eventually lost their wickets and the hosts gained one further success, the target was reached in just 20 overs. With just two matches to go, the league title is a realistic target, but this will be no mean feat as they finish with two tough matches with rivals Alveston snapping at their heels.
