The newly-formed Lympsham and Belvedere first team started the season well with an emphatic victory against Huntspill & District.

The newly-formed Lympsham and Belvedere first team began the season with an emphatic victory at local neighbours Huntspill and District.

Having won the toss, skipper McCrea elected to bowl first and was soon in the action removing opener Garner caught at point by Hosey. With pressure being applied from both ends, CJ Neate (1-12) removed the dangerous Lilycrop well caught by Chadwick at mid-wicket for 18.

McCrea (2-32) claimed Cavill lbw before Osmant and Randall steadied the ship. Jack Luff (0-17) bowled accurately without luck before the introduction of spinners Youngs (1-31) and Chatterjee (3-24) tied the opposition down.

Some late order hitting from Crawford 28 not out saw Huntspill finish on a moderate 140-7. In the field, Neville and keeper Gooding were in fine form.

In reply, Lympsham and Belvedere set about the target in steady fashion before Hosey (7) was bowled by leg spinner Randall. Dave Luff and Jack Luff continued to build the innings before Dave (18) was stumped.

Chadwick joined Luff at the crease and they set about the task in fine fashion, dismissing the bad ball to the boundary to keep Huntspill under pressure. Luff finished on 67 not out, whilst Chadwick ended on 42 not out, easing to victory with 10 overs to spare.

In a fine all-round team performance, Carbase man of the match went to Jack Luff for an important contribution with bat and ball.
