Weston cruised to a comfortable six-wicket home victory over Minehead, their second success of the season.
Weston First XI secured a six-wicket win in their first home game of the season against Minehead.
Having won the toss and put Minehead in to bat, Charl Willoughby (8-1-13-2) struck twice in the first nine overs to leave Minehead on 13-2. Ash Allen (7-2-24-2) and Andrew Fear (5-0-23-1) helped to reduce Minehead to 57-5 after 20 overs and an early finish looked to be on the cards.
Minehead number six, Brad Martin (41), helped rally the side, putting on a 68-run partnership for the sixth wicket with Freddie Wilson (29). Once Martin fell to Tom Chambers, the remaining wickets tumbled with just 15 runs added.
Paddy Howes took two wickets, one courtesy of a superb catch in the deep from Chris Davidson, but Chambers was the pick of the bowlers for the second week in a row, finishing with figures of 8.4-1-25-3.
Special mention must again be made of Simon Green, who showed outstanding athleticism, in one instance diving backwards across the boundary to palm a ball that was heading for six back onto the field, saving four runs.
Weston got off to a shaky start, with Green, Fear, Turner and Howes falling cheaply and leaving the team on 52-4 off 21 overs. This brought the formidable partnership of Ryan Davies and Chris Davidson to the crease.
Their unbroken partnership of 91 saw Davies compile an unbeaten 56, his second consecutive half-century for Weston, and Davidson (46), seeing Weston home to win by six wickets with 10 overs to spare.
For his contribution to this partnership and an outstanding catch in the deep at a time when Minehead were starting to accelerate, Chris Davidson was named Forte Financial man of the match.
