Weston 2nd XI extended their lead at the top of the West of England Premier Two 2nd XI with a comfortable victory over Chippenham.
WESTON seconds secured an eighth victory and extended their lead at the top of West of England Premier Two 2nd XI with a comfortable 53 run victory at home to Chippenham.
After winning the toss and electing to bat, Weston got off to a flying start as Andy Logan and Tom Ford peppered the boundary before Logan was bowled for 36. Mitch Smit took his place and continued his excellent form, smashing a quickfire 52 and with Jason Neave (41) continuing Smit’s good work, maximum batting points were attained not long after Ford had departed for 63.
Matt Kearsey added a final flourish to the innings with 33 not out, Weston ending on 242-4 from their 45 overs.
In reply, Weston made a superb start as Smit caught Humphrys off the bowling of Tom Court (7-0-35-1) in the third over and once Matt Kearsey and Sam Trego (9-1-31-1) had made further inroads into the top order, Weston were on top.
Kearsey made it a one-man bowling show as he ran through the visitors middle order, with only Merryweather (46) offering any real resistance. The veteran off spinner was left to pick up season best figures of 9-1-27-5.
Jalal Ahmed (9-1-36-1) secured the final wicket to fall as Chippenham ended well short of their target on 189-8.

Weston third’s struggles continued, being comprehensively outplayed by relegation rivals Frome 2nds.
Frome won the toss and and made early inroads into the Weston batting line up, with only Pete Hooper (10) of the first six making double figures.
The Weston innings lay in tatters at 56-5. Dale Chard led a one-man recovery show, blasting four sixes in his 37 to bring Weston back into the game. However, a total of just 121 seemed well below par on what was a good surface.
In reply, Lowe (21), Cantrell (29), Smith (19) and Larder (22) all joined forces to take Frome to their target in the 38th over, wickets falling to Chard (12-4-29-1), Alex Penwill (7-2-17-1), Matt Humphrey (5-0-22-1) and Mike Lee (1.2-0-6-1).

The 4th XI entertained Wedmore 3rds at Clarence Park and came away with a fine victory.
Weston openers John Mayo and Harry Wiseman put on an 80-run opening partnership before Mayo was lbw for 32. Dom Mayo scored a rapid 42 and Wiseman amassed his best ever adult score of 60 before he was lbw. Luke Morgan showed scored as Weston scored 203-5 off their 45 overs.
After tea, Declan McNulty and Crocker took quick wickets. Wedmore’s middle order hit back, forcing Crocker to throw the ball to two young seamers - Morgan and Georgia Tulip (6-0-36-1).
There was some excellent support in the field by Weston, coupled with a spectacular catch at cover by Paul Skinner. Morgan recorded his best-ever figures of 4-10 runs from six overs.
The big hitting Hawkings (29) added some late drama but, attempting one big hit too many, was brilliantly caught by Tulip on the boundary. Late wickets for Josh Hussey (3-0-22-2) and Terry Horler (4-0-26-1) finished off the Wedmore innings, leaving Weston the victors by 53 runs.
Intouch CRM man of the match was Luke Morgan.
