Weston 2nd XI ended up well short in their relegation battle against Taunton St Andrews.

WESTON seconds lost out to relegation rivals Taunton St Andrews in a rain-affected game at the Wyvern Club.

Lunchtime showers saw the game reduced to just 25 overs a side, a format that looked to suit the Taunton club as they posted 202-5 from their allocation.

Sam Goodhew, while expensive, was the pick of the Weston bowlers taking 3-47 from his allotted five overs, with other wickets falling to Sam Curley (5-0-36-1) and Matt Blamire (5-0-36-1).

In reply, Weston got off to a good start as Tom Ford (42) and Curley (25) raced out of the traps. Jon Lawrence (29 not out) carried on the assault, but with wickets falling at the other end, until late support was offered by 14-year-old Dan Press (22), Weston ended up well short of their target on 156-9.

IntouchCRM man of the match was Tom Ford.

THE Eaglets visited Wedmore 3rd XI looking to get back to winning ways.

After a delayed start, the game was reduced to 35 overs a side. Losing the toss, Weston were asked to bat first and made a steady start with openers Jack Press (18) and Josh Skuse (21). Alex Leeks (25) and Jon Mayo (32) kept up the good work and this continued with Josh Plaister (27) and Jamie Dance (23 not out) sharing a great partnership as Weston posted 174-6.

Wedmore’s reply was under pressure from ball one with left-arm openers Charlie Beddington (7-0-22-0) and Georgia Tulip (6-1-22-5) giving the batsman little to work with.

Wedmore briefly rallied with some hitting from father and son W Macarthur (20) and B Macarthur (21), but Weston’s first change bowlers also kept to the task. Terry Horler (6-0-22-0) was steady, but Matt Munday (4-15) off eight overs got his rewards for accurate swing bowling. Dance took the final wicket to wrap up the game in 29 overs.

The IntouchCRM player of the match went to Georgia Tulip.
