LYMPSHAM 1st XI faced a difficult trip to Abbots Leigh without the services of their captain and vice-captain. Andy Russ took the reigns for the day, and won the toss and invited the hosts to bat on a track left damp due to recent heavy rain.Despite some tight bowling by opening bowlers Brendon Summers and Geoff Tucker, the home side made a slow but steady start, but this came to an end when Tucker took three wickets in two overs and the visitors were on top. Middle order batsman Mac tried to hold the innings together, but the introduction of Simon Pilgrim and SB Fencing man of the match Andy Russ decimated his colleagues and their innings closed on 144-9. In reply the visitors made the worst possible start against the impressive opening attack of Abi and Ali, losing opener Rich Ford in the fourth over and his partner Dave Luff in the eleventh, with only 21 on the board. This brought together the experienced Rod Simpson and young Jamie Howson, and this pair took their side to all but victory with some sensible stylish batting. The middle order was able to knock off the runs required after this pair departed, and victory was secured with seven overs to spare.
