Weston seconds suffered their first defeat of the season in a poor display at home to Purnells.
A wretched all-round display saw Weston seconds fall to their first defeat of the season at home to Purnells.
After winning the toss and asking their opposition to bat, Weston’s bowlers failed to hit their straps and with contributions right down the order, Purnells found scoring relatively easy on a good wicket at Devonshire Road.
With only Matt Kearsey (2-41), Stu Roberts (2-32) and Tahmid Ahmed (2-44) picking up wickets, not helped by a number of dropped catches, the visitors racked up 252-6 from their 45 overs.
In reply, Weston’s innings never really got going and despite the best efforts of Kearsey (34) and with only James Holt (13) also reaching double figures, Weston were all out for 117, well short of the target.
Forte Financial man of the match went to Matt Kearsey.
Weston 4th XI welcomed Huntspill & District to the East Ground and played out a close game which went down to the last over.
Weston won the toss and elected to bat, however they were soon on the back foot when the away team took two early wickets. Tom Bailey (27) and Aaron Stone (38) steadied the ship before Bailey fell.
Matty Abed came in a hit a quick-fire 25 off just 13 balls, but with wickets continuing to fall, the run rate slowed and it was only Kieran Tasker (10 not out) who also made it to double figures as Weston finished on 145-9 from their 40 overs.
After tea, opening bowlers Abed (7-1-12-0) and Tasker (5-2-12-0) gave Weston a fantastic start, backed up by Georgina Goodwin (5-1-28-2) and Matt Munday (8-2-16-1).
Tippetts (56 not out) and Cavill (34) punishing some wayward bowling to pull themselves right back into the game. Sadly for Weston the damage was done at this point and Huntspill hit the two runs they needed to win with just three balls to go.
This weeks Forte Financial man of the match was Matty Abed.
