Weston Willows made a good start to the new season with victory over Blagdon.

Sunday saw the first game played by the Willows team supported by three boys from the Wonders, as they hosted a spirited Blagdon side.

Weston started with a flurry of boundaries and swelled the score to 278 (start on 200), the young Blagdon bowlers rewarded for a tight line at the stumps with seven wickets.

Top scorers for Weston were Bonnie Gready (9) Alice Bird (13) and Holly McGlaughlin (26 not out) with two fours.

After drinks, Weston set about defending their total with an all-seam attack, but Blagdon punished any wide bowling and were level with the required run-rate until direct run-outs from Gready and Bird knocked the visitors back.

Wickets were clustered in the middle overs with Bird, Gready (2) and Bobbie-Lee Kingston (2) giving Blagdon too much to do and they finished 264-7.

The Forte international star player of the day was Alice Bird. Next week the girls entertain the Weston boy’s team.

Anyone interested in joining the expanding girls’ section are welcome at training on Wednesdays at 5pm at the Devonshire Road ground.
