Winscombe defeated Watchet by 82 runs in their latest Somerset League match.

WINSCOMBE recorded a fine 82-run win at home to Watchet.

Electing to bat, Winscombe were given a brisk start from openers Ben Goodrum (20) and Andrew Lund (36), who took Winscombe to 76-2 after 12 overs.

Johnny Milnes-Win and Rob Bradley continued the innings at a pace adding 76 in 13 overs before Bradley was dismissed for 35. Jory Cureton (14) added 40 with Milnes-Win before both were dismissed in the same over, Milnes-Win for an excellent 67.

A partnership of 85 in the last 10 overs between veterans Dave Bailey (55 not out) and Mike Coe (29 not out) took Winscombe to 275-5.

In reply, Watchet’s openers steadily put on 38 for the first wicket before the persistence of Chris Clough (1-28) and the impressive Cureton (3-23) saw Watchet slump to 52-4.

Strong and Walsh frustrated Winscombe’s bowlers, putting on 52 for the fifth wicket, before Rob Bradley (1-24) bowled Strong.

With the rain looming, Winscombe rushed their overs through, taking four more wickets shared between Coe (2-25) and Matt Lunn (2-33) as Watchet finished on 193-9.

AN impressive all-round performance by Jon Reeves saw Winscombe through to a dramatic win at Taunton.

Winscombe bowled Taunton A out for 106 with Jon Reeves leading the way with 5-19, well supported by Simeon Lyons (3-21), Roger Wilmott (1-14) and Andy Mayne (1-26).

In reply, Winscombe started well with Steve Bawden (19) and Jamie Hutchinson (13) putting on 32 for the first wicket. However, Winscombe slumped to 68-8, but an unbroken partnership for the ninth wicket between Reeves (38 not out) and Mayne (8 not out), saw Winscombe home by two wickets.
