Winscombe 1st XI 235-1

Long Sutton 185

Winscombe made the lengthy journey to Long Sutton and were again pleased to win the toss and bat on a hot day.

The Winscombe openers made a steady start on a low pitch before Rob Shephard (15) was dismissed. Jory Cureton joined Michael Hayes at their crease and the pair began a 196-run unbroken partnership.

Both batted superbly against persistent bowling, with Cureton finishing on 97 not out and Hayes making 106 not out. Winscombe’s above-par score of 235-1 meant that Long Sutton looked for attacking shots and lost wickets at a result.

Jordan Peters (1-19) bowled with great control and there were also wickets for Rob Bradley, Mike Coe, Hayes and Cam Fraser. Again bowling with confidence, Cureton took 5-29 to ensure than Long Sutton were bowled out 54 runs short on 185. Winscombe’s maximum points win took them top of the league for the first time this season.
