WINSCOMBE 2nd XI entertained Uphill Castle Cavaliers and were asked to field first.

Winscombe’s opening bowlers of debutant Gunning and Bawden junior made good progress of containing the Uphill opening batters. The breakthrough came with Uphill on 30, but this brought Newman to the crease, who batted positively.

Winscombe toiled hard in the field, managing to take wickets at regular to restrict Uphill to 180 all out, with Gunning taking 4-40 off 10 overs.

Winscombe began well after tea, with openers Searle and Hutchinson making good progress into the Uphill total. Hutchinson looked set for a big score until he was out for 46.

Searle was joined by Bailey, but soon after Searle had to retire hurt due to a pulled muscle. This brought Reeves to the crease and the pair began to take the game away from Uphill.
