MISSING a couple of key players, Worle needed to be at its best in this Knockout Cup game to compete with Players, which is sweeping all other opponents aside in the league.

In a first-half where defences dominated, Rangers made it 1-0 through a Marc Trewern penalty after Liam Willment was fouled by Mark Ashmore, Players equalising through Rob Jones from a Tom Bush corner.

Players threatened throughout and kept keeper Nathan Royce busy, the best first-half save was a tip over from a 30 yard free kick. Rangers caused problems going forward though and Brinson stabbed home to make it 2-1 at half-time.

Rangers were forced into an early second half change as the already booked Trewern was on thin ice for continued fouling. Centre-backs Matt Wilson and John Imrie were outstanding, as was keeper Royce, who made a string of saves including a penalty, when Bush was felled.

Jim Owen’s parried shot was poked home by Dan Riddle for the equaliser. Players dominated the last 15 minutes and chances went begging before Devanney’s cross was headed home by Riddle.

The attitude of the Rangers players was commendable. Special mention must go to Royce, Wilson and Imrie, skipper Matt Wilson edging the vote for the Curry Garden man of the match.
