Weston Bay Yacht Club held their final race of the year.

THE final race of Weston Bay Yacht Club’s Frostbite Series took place on Sunday afternoon.

A brisk southerly offshore wind, occasionally gusting to Force 5, gave almost perfect racing conditions for the boats competing. Dash 11 (Class 1) and Gunsmoke (Class 2) crossed the start line almost simultaneously, while Trivial Pursuit (Class 1), delayed by a series of hiccups and Laston (Class 2) wrestling with a reluctant mainsail arrived a few minutes later.

Trivial Pursuit quickly left Gunsmoke and Laston in its wake and eventually caught Dash 11 by the end of the first windward leg with the other two battling for water at the mark.

However, Trivial Pursuit went hunting in the wrong direction for the Churchill Buoy and momentarily relinquished the lead to Dash 11. By the end of the race Dash 11 had managed to stay close enough to Trivial Pursuit to beat her on handicap, while Gunsmoke, although finishing behind Laston won Class 2 also on handicap.
