DEADLINE for entries to one of the west’s most popular men’s open bowls tournaments is just a few days away, on Wednesday, April 20.

Players from all over the South West and the Midlands will be competing in the event at Clarence Park, Weston, from June 19-25.

The tournament, which is in its 79th year, is played on three greens at the home of Clarence men and ladies and Wessex ladies bowling clubs.

Prize money for the singles, pairs, triples, mixed pairs’, Sunday mixed triples and gala fours is substantial. But the main attraction for most players and spectators is the tough competition and friendly atmosphere in a beautiful setting just off the seafront in Weston.

One of the highlights of the week is the Sunday mixed triples, which is played on the opening day of the tournament, June 20. It is open to any combination of men and women and a maximum of 60 teams are guaranteed four games, each of eight ends, in a round-robin competition.

Entry forms for all the competitions can be obtained from the Tournament Registrar, Clarence Bowling Club, Walliscote Road, Weston-super-Mare BS23 4BN. Please enclose a stamped, self-addressed envelope. Forms can also be downloaded from the website, westonbowlstournament.org.

The Sunday triples entry deadline is June 11.

Later in the year, a ladies’ open tournament is held at the same venue.
