WESTON Swimming Club's senior water polo squad had a good win over newly-promoted Exeter at Hutton Moor.The visitors opened the scoring within 30 seconds of the start, but Paul Hunt equalised within a minute and Simon Tomlinson gave the Seasiders the lead. However, they could only hold on to this for a short time as the visitors fought back to level at 2-all, and they scored again shortly before the end of the quarter to re-take the lead.Weston fought back in the second quarter when captain Greg Harper and Sean Coles scored to regain the lead, but Exeter fought back from a man-up set play.But once Tomlinson had scored Weston's fifth goal to re-take the lead, the Seasiders did not relinquish the advantage for the remainder of the game. Sean Coles scored his second goal to make it 6-4, and Tomlinson netted again to get a hat-trick. Exeter pulled one back shortly before the half-time break.After the interval Sean Coles completing his hat-trick, but the Seasiders missed chances and allowed Exeter to pull back to within one goal after netting twice. Tomlinson came to the rescue netting his fourth. Weston's lead was further extended through Sean Coles scoring his fourth.Exeter tried to fight back, succeeding in netting one goal, but Coles struck again, quickly followed by another Hunt goal, giving Weston a four-goal cushion. Exeter did manage to pull one back just before the end of the quarter to make it 12-9.Exeter netted the other side of the interval, but Tomlinson netted from a man-up set play a few minutes later to give him his fifth goal, and Coles scored again to completed his double hat-trick.Exeter managed a consolation goal in the 26th minute, but they were totally shut out for the final couple of minutes.The game was refereed well by Rhys Tamlyn of Bristol, and the club's sponsors, the Ebdon Arms at Wick St Lawrence, provided refreshments for both teams.Weston's team and scorers: Martin Maloney (goalkeeper), Paul Watkins, Paul Hunt (2), Greg Harper (captain) (1), Stuart Fennell, Alan Cummings, Simon Tomlinson (5), Liam Coles, Sean Coles (6), Nick Edwards and Sean Williamson.
