Banwell dropped seven catches in a rain-affected draw against Glastonbury.

BANWELL and Churchill kept their unbeaten run intact, but bad weather and a poor fielding display cost them victory against Glastonbury.

Banwell soon lost Jack Masters and Brad Diver joined Mark Biggs and the pair took the score to 95 before Biggs was bowled for 35. Soon after, Diver was out for a fine 80.

Wickets fell in the chase for quick runs, but Bebber (36) and Adams (35) took the score to 245-8.

Banwell’s bowlers started off well, with Dom Bush back to his best as his nine overs went for only 13 runs and picking up an early wicket.

With Elvis Langley from the other end teasing the batsman with his swing bowling, Banwell could not hold onto their chances and dropped three catches in quick succession.

With the players going off for rain on three occasions, Banwell kept picking up wickets at regular intervals. Langley took one and Pearson two, but seven catches were put down in total as Glastonbury ended on 156-6.

Banwell and Churchill still picked up 28 points in this rain-affected draw and are still 14 points clear at the top of the table.

THE 2nd XI returned to winning ways against Trull and came away with a hard-fought four wicket win and 35 points.

The hosts were dismissed for 138 with spin twins Rob Salter (12-2-38-4) and Bob Hurford (12-3-21-3) causing a collapse. Veteran John Biggs also took two late wickets for 12 runs in his three overs.

The fielding was also much improved on recent weeks with most of the catches on offer being taken. Dave Pye, making a welcome return after injury, took a stunner behind the stumps and he combined well with Mike Legg to execute a run-out. Alex Faukes took two fine catches in the outfield to complete Trull’s misery.

In reply, Banwell got off to a poor start losing two early wickets. However, an 80-run stand between Mike Legg (51 not out) and Ric Brafield (32) put the visitors back on track.

A middle order collapse saw four wickets fall in two overs, but Alex Foukes (24 not out) saw Banwell home with seven overs to spare.
