A Weston College student is going for gold at the London Olympics.

A WESTON College student is going for gold at the London Olympics after being picked to represent Ghana in judo.

Black belt Emmanuel Narty, aged 29, of Old Down, Bath, is the number one black belt in Africa and ranked 23rd in the world.

The British Army First Royal Tank Regiment trooper, who is studying a business management foundation degree at the College said: “It’s a dream come true. I started judo when I was nine and was a black belt at 17. At 19 I came to England to further my studies and joined the army a year later.

During the games, judo will be held at the ExCel Centre from July 28 to August 3. At the London Olympics, there are 386 male and female fighters battling it out in 14 medal events.
